New Off Dartmoor Letterbox Clues
NOTTINGHAMPSHIRE-HAYWOOD OAKS-HERO OF SHERWOOD,SK.608.547,
OS Landranger Sheet 120. It is hard to
see coming from the S but the entrance is on the right just after the
pedestrian sign & just before the Forestry Cottages (I think that is what
they said). Be aware that the sign said they closed the gates at 7pm when I was
there & they DO have a gate. Park & head down the trail through the
fern forest. There are a number of side paths but stay on the main path,
passing the large old oaks (the ones I suspect give this place its name). Turn
left on the wide path & take it to an intersection with a big oak ahead of
you. Now turn around & look for a multi-trunk birch tree. Box is at the base
at the back under a couple rocks. Continue on the left/uphill trail & when
you see the buildings take the left through the woods to the car park.
SCOTLAND-EDINBURGH-DESTINY,NT.25.73, OS Landranger Sheet 66. After visiting the Edinburgh Castle & seeing the Stone of Scone (aka
Stone of Destiny) you can seek YOUR destiny by heading down to the park area
right at the base of Castle Hill between the Castle & the railroad tracks.
Wander around until you can see old ruins that are downhill from some steps. On
RHS (when heading down) of the ‘correct’ steps there are two tiers of a side
wall. Sit on the lower tier looking towards the Princes Street Gardens across the
tracks. Reach to your right behind the upper wall section behind & at the
base of the tree you will find a capstone. Lift it to find your Destiny be
careful not to move the second rock which is behind it & is to keep it from
falling down the hill. It is a long reach so you MIGHT have to hop the wall or
come from above but be very careful if you need to do this since it is a lot
harder to be stealthy doing this.
WARWICKSHIRE-STRATFORD-UPON-AVON-BARD's TALE,SP.206.550, OS
Landranger Sheet 151. From car park take the path over
the canal & towards the Avon continue along the footpath & over a
second bridge. Soon you will come to an open field on the left & an
elevated bridge ahead on the right that does not come to where you are at. At
this point turn left along the edge of the field until you come to yet another
bridge. The left turn is just after a small 20’ section of woods. Head due N
from the bridge to the tree & the box is in a small hole under rocks at the
front.
